Thanks for the Chocolates

As I wrote a month ago, today is White Day. This is the day when men who received a gift of chocolate on Valentine’s Day give some sort of return gift — “okaeshi” in Japanese — to the wives, girlfriends, daughters and female co-workers who gave them something. It’s pure marketing fluff, of course, but kind of fun, and companies are happy to take advantage of the event by thinking of ways to sell products. Even Apple gets into the spirit of White Day their Japan store page, by suggesting that men buy engraved iPods for their better halves as a way of saying “Thanks for the chocolate!”

なに?? Beer + Milk = Bilk???

Japan has always been the homeland of crazy high-tech gadgets and a techophile’s wet dream, but leave it to the Japanese to even attempt something of this caliber. I guess it’s great news for beer and milk lovers though, as a liquor shop owner in Japan’s largest dairy farming region has stopped crying about local spilt milk and started making beer from it instead.

Silverman takes a lickin’ & keeps on tickin’

Who would have thought that being a local TV journalist would be hazardous to your health.

But then, you’re not Peter Silverman.

For the past few months, the CityNews ombudsman has been probing the case of a King St. West optician alleged to be selling counterfeit frames bearing the mark of some famous companies. After receiving numerous complaints about the products, the Silverman Helps team went to the store on Wednesday afternoon with hopes for a peaceful reconciliation.

It didn’t turn out that way.

Anna Nicole Smith dead

Okay, what is going on!? Anna Nicole Smith is OFFICIALLY dead from an apparent drug overdose. Anna was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida around 2 PM EST Thursday after collapsing at the Hard Rock Seminole Hotel and Casino.

Cancel or Allow?

Apple has once again makes fun of all the nagging security “features” in Vista with their new Get a Mac TV ad. PC has a secret service guard next to him asking to cancel or allow all questions posed by the Mac. The new ad premiered last night on U.S. television.

The ad is a followup to recently released ads called “Tech Support” and “Surgery” in which the PC undergoes an upgrade to Windows Vista.
